Does it still have that weird problem where you’re not allowed to modify surfaces because of the way you created them? Last time I tried using it, I couldn’t create a mirror copy of a shape and then edit the mirror. I could only edit the source, which then applied the changes to all the parts.

A good number of these are examples where most people don’t actually know that the name comes from a town. I feel like they shouldn’t count.

Or they did read all the comments, but someone posted their game during the time they were reading, so they never actually saw it. Then they posted their game and looked a stinky non-reader even though they weren’t.

Any boot that can actually be resoled. You might pay a higher up front cost, but they will be worth the investment when you’re putting your third outlsole on them in instead of getting yet another pair of shoes.

Edit: also, the AK isn’t actually cheap to make, it’s just the US market was flooded with surplus guns no one wanted for a good while.

They’re just plain wrong about 1911s though. Those things have been surpassed many times over in every category that you would care about in a hand gun, including reliability. I know a few gunsmiths. They’re always fixing 1911 platforms, well beyond what your would expect for their popularity. Everyone always says “two world wars,” and they were a great gun for they’re era, but there’s a reason they got replaced.

I wasn’t thinking about that at all, but they probably aren’t trying very hard, if I had to guess. What’s their current monetization model?

This man ran into the weirdos on Mastodon. I’m over there hanging out with people posting about ass-pennies and no one cries “content warning!” You’re the one who decides who you follow and who follows you. If your hanging out with folks too sensitive for your liking, that’s on you.

The issue becomes when things are developed with a mix of public and private money. I’m not saying we shouldn’t tackle the issue, only that it can’t be as simple as public money = public resource. If that were true, nearly all of us would be required to work for free, since we got the majority of our education through public funding.

Edit: It seems everyone ignored the generalization I was replying to. Yes, in terms of code it’s actually relatively easy to require that a publicity funded project be open source and leave it at that. The business can decide if they want to write everything from scratch to protect their IP or if they want to open up existing code as a part of fulfilling/winning the contact.

In terms of other partially government funded projects, like the pharmaceutical example given, it’s much more difficult to say how much of the process and result are thanks to public funding. That’s really the only point I was trying to make, that it can get very hard to draw the line. With code, it can be relatively easy.
