Terminator Genesys. It’s loathed by terminator fans for a variety of reasons and I won’t defend any of the writing or casting decisions, but I do give it credit for trying to do something new with the story and time aspect. I think it could have been a lot better if they took a bit more time with it and recast a few characters, but overall it’s a popcorn flik to me, turn your brain off and enjoy.

As long as UBI covers basic living expenses, then yes I would support it. Capitalism, as it exists in the west, is not sustainable and if it continues as is, there is probably going to be massive employment issues within a generation as common working people without specialized degrees and can’t afford to get them will be unemployable due to automation, AI and robots completing most common labor jobs cheaper and more efficiently.

I know the pushback against UBI is that if you take away the need for people to work to live, most people won’t work… and honestly I’m okay with that. I doubt there would a be serious decline in people seeking work because if you can still earn extra income for luxuries and nicer things over what UBI would cover… why wouldn’t you? And those who are content to sit at home or not work, is fine by me. Because I’ve worked with a lot of people over the years who only have a job because someone told them they needed a job. They were miserable fucking people to be around and we were more productive the days they called in sick or skipped. Some people should be paid to stay the fuck at home, and society would be a better place for it.

Can’t say personally seen any of the security footage but from the sounds of it this guy was mingling with the crowd and not drawing attention to himself as well as able to book it down the alleyway. It’s not improbable that he’s terminally ill himself, but it’s hard for me to believe he’d be at a stage the doctor(s) said he was incurable/insurance denied him but still not far enough along it’s not affecting him in anyway noticeable way.

I really don’t know this guy has a long term plan. If I were to bed, his wife died after denied insurance. Or possibly a close family member or friend. The fact that he could afford health insurance or had it through an employer implies he probably had a decent job. So a person he was planning to grow old with is now dead, his plans for the future are ruined, probably doesn’t care about an item that costs a few hundred dollars. Maybe he wants to see how long he can evade the cops, but something tells me if they ever do catch the actual murderer, he’s not going to care much as in his eyes he lost his future when the person he cared about died.

Guys planning a quick and carefully planned get away, so most likely traveling light with only what he needs. But yeah, of course he’ll bring two bags.

Nuclear land use is still below all other forms of energy generation when you take the whole lifecycle, from mining to refinement to production and construction, lile I said in my above post.

Most nuclear plants contain all their nuclear waste during their lifetime operation and transport after decommissioning. Yucca mountain was designed as a backup and assumed 30 years to fill if fuel rods were not reprocessed.

Nuclear only has one caveat is the price.

It’s the safest, bar none. More people died constructing the Hoover Dam than died in relation to Chernobyl and Fukushima combined.

It uses the least amount of land per megawatt produced. This applies both in raw terms of reactor size to generators, turbines or solar panels, or if you include all land needed to mine, process, refine, construct and decommission a form of energy. Cadmium based roof top solar is the only thing that comes close, which is not just niche use as no single building footprint can hope to produce enough power for a single floor, let alone high density structures, but cadmium based solar is also ridiculously expensive. And this metric fails to mention how inefficient battery storage for things like solar is, which further inflates the land use.

In terms of greenhouse gas emissions, be it carbon, methane and other climate devastating, Nuclear is the lowest in terms of emissions, and those emissions are all front loaded as part of the construction and mining process, which can theoretically be lowered with more RnD into greener practices for those industries.

So we have a source of power that is safe, efficient and proven that would allow us to put more land aside for conservation efforts which would help with carbon capture as well as lower emissions. And the only major downside is the higher upfront cost? Take a guess what’s going to happen to energy costs if we continue the current course and climate collapse continues to happen.
