As others said, at some point it becomes normal for the person, thinking they’re doing something right, especially when they argument that “it’s for the family”
I keep notes as wiki-like pages. It’s incredibly useful to have specific, contextual documentation that makes sense to me. I can share it to people as well, but that takes some molding.
I see, thanks for clearing that up. In my situation, keeping a few terabytes on 3 hard drives and backing up to a reliable cloud copy (not sync, as you mentioned) is good enough for me. Optical media is impractical with the amount of data, and tape drives far too expensive for just a few TBs.
