  • It’s mostly legacy at this point, it used to be the easiest way to get top of the line graphics while being performant. There was a time when every new console game used unreal and had the same plastic toy soldier look to it, because thats just how the unreal engine rendered things at the time. But it was incredibly easy to use and most devs had some experience with modding unreal tournament in some way at the time.

So it established itself in the industry, and large publishers made deals with epic, and devs had to learn it in school when game dev started getting taught in school, and so on. If you wanted to work in AAA game dev from 2005-2015 you learned how to use the unreal engine.

But epic got lazy, and devs kept using the engine as a hammer even in games where it just didn’t make sense, so now we’re here. Unreal is fantastic for stage based or single map multiplayer fps games that you want to look the best contemporary technology can look. It can be forced to do anything like any engine can, of course, but it’s hard. However epic still wants money and sells it to all sorts of publishers and dev teams.

It’s simply because the product is far superior to all other solutions on the market.

Not due to tricks, or marketing, or any weird strategies, but by simply solving the distribution problem for both the developers and consumers.

Yes all billionaires need to give up their wealth or literally be eaten, and all capitalism is inherently evil, but if we were to rank evil from least to most as especially liberals do in all other circumstances, then gaben and steam are on the least evil side of the spectrum.

Liberals were never left wing, equality nor equity can happen under capitalism. The rainbow capitalism liberals advocate for only extends as far as their use to the liberal hierarchy. See: trans and undocumented people getting thrown away by the Harris admin as soon as they no longer saw any bumps in polls for supporting them.

The problem you’re having is you live in a place with such a far right Overton window that the thought of even a tenuous equality amongst the under class is a progressive idea. It’s not. But it’s an easy tool to divide the underclass, and even acceptance of ‘controversial’ humans is used to divide the underclass.

Liberal was a good thing to be in the early 1700s, when it was the only alternative to divine right feudalism; but we’ve evolved since then. We don’t have to settle for capital based feudalism, which is all liberalism amounts to.

Tl;Dr liberal infighting caused you to think liberalism and conservatism is different ideologies, and you’re using the conservative definition of liberal to define yourself and getting mad.

FYI for anyone that comes across, this here is an example of a conservative capitalist supporter who spends hours a day posting about imaginary tankies that fucked his wife or whatever weird shit pops into their head.

Individuals like this use the word tankie in the same way liberals use the word Nazi or conservatives use the word commie or how maga use the word dei or how toddlers use the word icky. It means whatever they want it to mean at the time, in most cases just being anything unpleasant to their delicate sensibilities.

Anyone using the term tankie on a left wing site is deeply unserious and solely exists to sow division and troll.

The near future? Yes. Absolutely. The have the best economic and political system so far, and are now building out their military to step into the role of hegemon.

    The far future?

Assuming China can crack down on global coal and oil usage and figure out climate change, they’ll be paving the way for communism in a couple of generations. If they can successfully solve these issues, crush the capitalist markets, and still maintain or lower their current level of corruption then communism is inevitable by 2100 at the latest.

This will be the last century of kings and ceos. Either the world ends due to climate change and capitalist greed, or humanity prevails through communism. There isn’t another option left.
