Tried it and it works pretty well! I’ll have to keep playing with it, but so far so good!

How well do you find it works? I’m not afraid of the fee, but I don’t want to spend time setting it up and paying the fee to only find out that it won’t do most things

The number one thing that most of these don’t do well for me is the connection with banks. You mentioned that there is bank syncing, how well does that work? Can I say, just click my bank and do an oauth connection, and it will store it? I really loved Mint, and essentially want it to be done the same way

That is pretty insulting tbh, going in assuming everyone is a moron. I kind of get what they were going for, but it’s something that could be easily solved just with a normal interview. They probably got burned once and decided “This is our standard going forward, everyone will suffer now”

Bingo. For each node if it’s 0 continue if it’s 1 then bfs to get everything. Store that group temporarily and mark which nodes you’ve seen. For the remaining nodes check if they are 1 and you have not seen it and continue. O(n log n) I believe, since you still iterate over everything and check

I resonate with so many of these. I hate the tech prescreen, but morons, cheaters, and liars make it necessary. The prescreen is purely there to weed out a good, like you said well over 50% of candidates right there.

And I’ll throw a thorn at you, I do store numbers as strings… When I’m dealing with currency lol. I’m 100% sure that’s what he meant of course, because he was thinking about float precision and how you wouldn’t want to risk currency imprecision during serialization or anything! Should have given them the job! /s

Oh my god I hate that, just set up an entire infrastructure before you even get to the question. The very least they could do is set up the cluster for you so you wouldn’t have to spend the time

I had one that was similar to this guys, got to the CEO interview and until that moment I was still excited to be there. They flat-out asked me “Here at ___ we know we’re making the world a better place - and because of that we’re willing to make ___ our number one priority in our lives. This is a hard question, are you willing to do the same?”

I was taken aback for a second. I then answered in the only way I could. “I see what you are doing and fully appreciate it. If I’m hired here ___ will be one of the most important things in my life. Whenever I’m working I will be 100% dedicated to the work, I’ve never shy’ed away from it. I’ll work nights and weekends when needed, sometimes those are needed. However you’re asking if it will be the most important thing in my life? My answer is no. It will be one of the most important things in my life, but my family and spouse is the my most important thing in my life.”

No shit, they ended the interview there, and I got a canned rejection email within 30 minutes. I’ve never been so angry at the audacity of an interview question like that. Who the fuck do you think you are demanding that you make yourself more important than my spouse?

To kick us off, mine from this week that I wrote down in another thread. In 60 minutes take an adjacency matrix as an input, good old int[][], and return all of the disjointed groups, and their group sizes in descending order.

Lol if this was a programming assignment, then I can 100% say that you are setting yourself up for failure, but hey you do you. I’m 15 years out of college right now, and I’m currently interviewing for software gigs. Programs like those homework assignments are your interviews, hate to tell you, but you’ll be expected to recall those algorithms, from memory, without assistance, live, and put it on paper/whiteboard within 60 minutes - and then defend that you got it right. (And no, ChatGPT isn’t allowed. Oh sure you can use it at work, I do it all the time, but not in your interviews)

But hey, you got it all figured out, so I’m sure not learning the material now won’t hurt you later and interviewers won’t catch on. I mean, I’ve said no to people who I caught cheating in my interviews, but I’m sure it won’t happen to you.

For reference, literally just this week one of my questions was to first build an adjacency matrix and then come up with a solution for finding all of the disjointed groups within that matrix and then returning those in a sorted list from largest to smallest. I had 60 minutes to do it and I was graded on how much I completed, if it compiled, edge cases, run time, and space required. (again, you do not get ChatGPT, most of the time you don’t get a full IDE - if you’re lucky you get Intellisense or syntax highlighting. Sometimes it may be you alone writing on a whiteboard)

Of course that’s just one interview, that’s just the tech screen. Most companies will then move you onto a loop (or what everyone lovingly calls ‘the Guantlet’) which is 4 1 hour interviews in a single day, all exactly like that.

And just so you know, I was a C student, I was terrible in academia - but literally no one checks after school. They don’t need to, you’ll be proving it in your interviews. But hey, what do I know, I’m just some guy on the internet. Have fun with your As. (And btw, as for sticking it to the system, you are paying them for an education - of which you aren’t even getting. So, who’s screwing the system really?)

Eh, putting more than minimal effort into cheating seems to defeat the point to me. Even if it takes 10x less time, you wasted 1x or that to get one passing grade, for one assignment that you’ll probably need for a test later anyway. Just spend the time and so the assignment.

Yeah knocking out 99% of cheaters honestly is a pretty good strategy.

And for students, if you’re reading through the prompt that carefully to see if it was poisoned, why not just put that same effort into actually doing the assignment?
