Numbering didn’t work though.

Markdown has this strange behavior where once it thinks it’s a numbered list, it doesn’t care which numbers you use. I think behind the scenes it’s just parsing it as an HTML <ol>, <li>.

Not that this is a great argument or anything, but growing up I thought I wouldn’t possibly start using drugs (including nicotine) and alcohol so I tuned out for all the “drugs are bad” lectures.

When I was a young adult I got into drugs and had a lot of fun. A decade later I’m lame as hell and don’t party, don’t do drugs.

What I’m trying to say is that even despite good education it’s still easy to get into drugs. For many people they never give them up (because hello — they’re addictive). I’m lucky that I moved on and made something out of my life, but that’s not the story for everyone.

An old friend moved across the country to where I’d been living for a few years. About two months later he lost his job due to skipping a shift to go party (small town → big city move).

He then neglected to find another job so when I tried talking to him about it, he got angry then disappeared and drove back to our home state that night.

I could’ve written a Tailscale App Connector to route it through the home connection, but I ended up blocking their domains outright and writing some CSS rules to hide Reddit from SearXNG results. It’s better than that annoying page.

Hell no, I’d whip up vegan breakfast burritos from a block of tofu and soy chorizo (or a complicated fake meat recipe I have) before doing that.

I probably can’t be of much help yet unless for some reason you want to take up programming. I’m just not familiar with web scraping outside programming.

Selenium is a “driver” that controls browsers, you would need some type of software to actually drive it. If you have programming experience it’s pretty easy to get going.

Personally, I use it in Ruby on Rails development for unit testing but I also use it to log in to websites and perform some actions on behalf of a user (where the websites don’t offer an API).

I don’t have experience with the others, but thought my comment may or may not be useful.

Yeah, that’s pretty annoying.

I use Tailscale with an exit node in my home country and another in Switzerland. Most my traffic goes to Switzerland, but some of it exits locally as websites block other countries. I’d rather it still pass through a VPN rather than my home IP address.

It’s mostly painless, the only website outright blocking VPNs is Reddit (which I don’t care about), but I block most other social media companies and Google properties so I’m not concerned about them.

I personally use a double-hop VPN to avoid this but I don’t think that’s necessarily scalable to all users or a valid suggestion for the non-technical among us.

This is what keeps me from rolling my own instance for personal use. I would need to buy a domain (linked to me) to communicate with anyone else.

It would be nice to be able to spin up an instance on i2p or Tor without still needing access to the “normal” web, but I don’t think everyone’s going to hop onto pure i2p unless it comes built in to apps.
