So I’m not 100% sure this is the right sub for this but I couldn’t really find another sort of mod abuse sub that had actual users. I recognize that I am most certainly an asshole in this situation, but I got banned Fedibridge@lemmy.dbzer0.com for a misogynistic comment I left on a completely different sub.
imogen_underscore in that same thread made multiple death threats against me and has only received a 7 day ban. So I want to be clear here that in their eyes a misogynistic comment left on an entirely different sub is WORSE than death threats left in your own sub?
wat da actual frickity fuck
Death threats are a heat-of-the-moment infraction, people don’t usually mean it.
In contrast, misogyny reveals a deeply flawed character of the commenter, that makes them incompatible with participation in the community.
That is quite possibly the dumbest thing I’ve read today.
And that is why you’ll never fucking get it and stay banned
This is the the death threat, btw:
bro I’m literally putting a curse on you rn. you’re going to die soon
Damn, I wonder why misogyny got a longer ban than that. /s
That was just one of them. They had one or two other ones. One was hoping I got hit by a bus and the other was suffocating I think? I might have that one mixed up for something else.
So she did, I’ll admit I missed those ones. Still, you have this still up on you account, undeleted, so I’d say YDI:
And I would feel fairly confident that the commenter was a woman because attacking someones personality (that they don’t know at all) is typically done by women. If they don’t like something you said they tend to tell you that you have a crap personality or a tiny dick.

You’re literally attacking personality of someone you don’t know in that comment.
Please point to where in that comment I attacked their personality? I said they were probably a woman based on them saying something else in anothe comment. That’s it.
Oh, so when you make baseless assumptions about people it’s just you rationally arriving at a conclusion from context, but when someone else says your personality sucks based from your diatribe about women and dating, it must be because they’re an irrational, emotional wöman.

You literally posted a screenshot with its pronouns, why do you have to misgender her?
They as in that person? It’s a gender neutral term. Are you taking the piss?
It’s gender neutral when you don’t know the pronouns of a person. Her pronouns are literally in its bloody display name my friend.
Chill out, it can also be used when gender is irrelevant.
Singular they has become the pronoun of choice to replace he and she in cases where the gender of the antecedent – the word the pronoun refers to – is unknown, irrelevant, or nonbinary, or where gender needs to be concealed. It’s the word we use for sentences like Everyone loves his mother.
Transphobic people regularly use they/them for binary trans people to avoid using their actual pronouns. If you know someone’s pronouns be respectful and use them.
Explain to me how that user’s pronouns are irrelevant when she’s being directly referenced by OP. I’ll wait.
Are you of the opinion that the pronouns are relevant to the length of their (plural their mind you, OP and imogen_underscore) bans or that the discussion here will somehow change depending on their gender?
This BS is one of the reasons why the left are getting their asses handed to them like fucking everywhere. ‘They’ as a neutral pronoun is used as a fallback when nobody cares to point out the precise gender. You can’t win for losing. Refer to someone’s gender during normal conversation? Sexist. Speaking in a way that doesn’t call out someone’s gender because it is unimportant for the issues being discussed? Believe it or not: sexist? Or what not sexist enough? What is even the problem?
You’ve completely derailed the conversation and soured everyone to your cause(s). GG.
Like the other comment said. Chill.
Ydi
It was the same mod that did both bans?
It is. (i’m a mod of the community, but i only removed comments in that thread) tbh i’m not sure what blaze’s thought process was here so i’ll ask him and see what he thinks. Personally i would’ve just banned them all for a week.
You’ll have to forgive my lack of Lemmy knowledge idk how to see which mod issues the bans.
If it was not the same mod then it really does not fit here.
I am unaware of any way to tell which mod specifically issued the ban so I apologize
There are some apps that show it, and I believe tesseract web view does as well.
If it was two different mods there is no comparing them especially if it was two different communities, which likely have different rules.Edit: never mind, the images finally loaded and it is the same community. I thought it was two different communities.
Yeah same community
Have you ever been to Reddit? Surely have. And most probably you’re here because of Reddit’s moderators are completely crazy. Well, moderators here are completely the same. They are just fewer and more lazy.
Just make another account if that community is really important for you.Nah I don’t give a shit about the community I am/was just flabbergasted that they rate a misogynistic comment as worse than death threats.
That’s just insane.
If I was a woman I could see how online misogyny would affect me in a real way, being unable to participate in and feel welcome in communities day to day.
An anonymous flame war death threat does not actually materially affect someone, unless there’s some reason to think it’s serious, the odds of which are negligible.
No one’s saying actual murder is less bad than misogyny, for fucks sake.
I mean my “misogynistic comment” was basically just me saying that women are typically the ones I see making that type of specific verbal attack.
No different than someone saying they think men are bad at listening in certain contexts which I can pretty much guarantee nobody would report or get banned for in any way for saying.
Yes there are some ridiculous mod actions here, I just said that portraying them as being more sympathetic to murder than misogyny is specious.
I wouldn’t even say that’s what I was trying to portray. More just how ridiculous the ban was in context of the whole situation. My comment wasn’t really misogynistic and their response seems out of scale with the punishment they gave to someone who told me they hoped I died in several creative ways.
